Four Tipton County teams - Covington softball and baseball, Brighton softball and Munford baseball - have played approximately 110 combined games the past two-plus months to get to today: the do-or-die region semifinals.
Winners advance to the region title game Wednesday and, win or lose there, qualify for Friday's sectionals, the winners of which move on to the state tournament.
Here's a quick look at each of today's games:
What: Munford baseball vs. Arlington
When: 7 p.m.
Game outlook: Arlington ended Munford's season in this round last year and beat the Cougars 5-1 and 12-7 earlier this year. With that said, Munford has won six of its last nine games and has been playing well. Munford is the underdog, but is certainly capable of pulling off an upset.
What: Covington baseball vs. Craigmont
When: 5 p.m.
Game outlook: You'd probably never get Covington coach David Sage to admit it, but this is a complete mismatch. It would be a surprise if this one lasts more than three innings.
What: Covington softball vs. Trezevant
When: 6 p.m.
Game outlook: See above, but insert Covington coach Justus Cousar. Barring something crazy, the Lady Chargers should get past an overmatched Sheffield team easily and quickly.
What: Brighton softball vs. Bartlett
When: 6 p.m.
Game outlook: Bartlett owns wins this year over Houston and University School of Jackson, two decent teams. Nevertheless, the Lady Cardinals will be heavy favorites.
