April 11, 2017

Brennan Hollie drove in three runs and Corey Simmons pitched a complete game Monday night in Brighton to lead Munford to a 7-2 District 13-AAA win over the Cardinals.

Munford (10-10 overall) moved to 2-0 in district play and will host Brighton today at 6:30 p.m. Brighton (7-11) fell to 0-3 in the district, though two of those losses came against first place Dyer County. Munford plays Dyer County next Monday and Tuesday in a series that could decide the regular season district champ.

Hollie singled home two runs in the top of the first inning. Brighton tied the score in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Dalton Rushing and a sacrifice fly from Cole Wilkins.

But Simmons held Brighton scoreless the rest of the way. He struck out seven, walked five and allowed one earned run and seven hits.

Brett Wilkins pitched well for Brighton but took the loss. He pitched six and a one-third innings, striking out eight, walking one and allowing just one earned run and six hits.

Simmons was 2 for 4, Austin Perry singled in a run and Kyle Kelley, Garrett Baugh and Austin Cousar each singled for Munford. Rushing tripled for Brighton, T.J. Klutts was 2 for 4 with a double and Garrett Dawson, Brett Wilkins and Bryson Morgan each singled.
