With Covington and Munford less than a week away from its respective district tournaments, nothing tangible was on the line when the teams met in Munford Sunday for a doubleheader.
But Tipton County bragging rights were up for grabs and Munford got a sweep that was highlighted by a no-hitter from Jacob Sawyers in game two.
Sawyers walked the second batter of the game before retiring 20 straight in an 8-0 Munford win. If that wasn't enough, Sawyers was 2 for 4 at the plate with a double and four RBIs.
Corey Simmons also had a big day at the plate for Munford (21-9), going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI and Garrett Baugh drove in two. Gunner Vines added an RBI double.
Christian Delashmit struck out two and allowed six hits over four innings to take the loss. Tommy Flanagan pitched three innings of relief.
Munford got another strong pitching performance in game one, this one by Joe Fulcher in a 9-0 win. Fulcher struck out six and allowed just two hits over five innings to earn the win.
Steven Kendrick had a two-run homer for Munford and also singled in another run. Simmons was 3 for 3 with a double, Austin Cousar drove in three runs and Kyle Kelley was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Curtis Wall had a double for Covington (23-10) and Cole Howard was 2 for 3.
