Munford Sweeps Millington

April 27, 2016

Munford already knows where it will be seeded in next week's District 13-AAA tournament. Brighton will be first and Munford second.

Both teams, though, still have some games to play before the second season starts and are looking to enter the tournament on a roll.

The Cougars (16-9) blew out Millington in a pair of non-district games last Wednesday and Thursday.

Behind a big day at the plate from Jacob Sawyers, Munford took game one 15-2 in five innings at home.

Sawyers was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Austin Perry was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Austin Cousar singled twice and drove in two runs and Corey Simmons doubled in a pair of runs.

Perry struck out six over four innings to earn the win.

Game two in Millington was more of the same in a 14-3 Munford win.

Steven Kendrick doubled twice and drive in five runs and Joe Fulcher was 3 for 4 with three RBIs. Garrett Baugh and Sawyers each singled and doubled and Cousar had a pair of hits.

Kyle Kelley struck out three and allowed two hits in four innings to earn the win.
